The programming language and educational application interface ScratchJr for iOS is designed with the cognitive, personal, social and emotional development of young children in mind. By putting together graphical programming blocks, children can make characters move, dance, dance and sing. Meanwhile, children learn to solve problems, design projects, and express their own creativity on the computer.
They also use math and language in a rich context. meaning and motivation, supporting the learning of math and literacy from an early age. With ScratchJr for iPhone, kids not only learn how to code, they write code to learn as well.

ScratchJr is the result of collaboration between the Lifelong Kindergarten research group at the MIT Media Lab, the Developmental Technologies research group at Tufts University, and the Playful Invention Company. The ScratchJr project has received generous financial support from the National Science Foundation (NSF DRL-1118664), the Scratch Foundation, the LEGO Foundation and British Telecommunications.

ScratchJr has the same basic premise as the desktop version - tap the blocks coding in the programming area to develop algorithms for animated characters over a series of slides. Programming blocks include motion, chat bubbles and more. This learning app also features recording audio clips, adding backgrounds and personalizing characters through the built-in editor. That allows kids to develop their own personality and creativity.
