Update Android Studio to the latest

Android Studio 3.6

Design

Split View support in design editors

Design editing tools such as Layout Editor and Navigation Editor, now provide a split view window, allowing you to also observe the interface code design. Split View replaces the original Preview window, which can be configured based on the file to preserve content information such as Zoom factors and design options. This makes it easy for you to choose the best option for each situation. Enable this function by clicking the icon Split in the top right corner of the Editor window.

Split View Feature in Android Studio

Color Selector Source Tab

In Android Studio 3.6, the color picker injects color resources into the application to let you quickly select and replace corresponding color values. You will be able to access this function in ndesign tools or XML editors.

Programming

View binding is a function that makes it easier to write code, to interact with view windows by providing compile-time safety when referencing code. When enabled, View binding creates a binding class for each XML layout file in that module.

Update NDK

Android NDK functionality in Android Studio before Java support, now works in Kotlin:

  • Navigate from a JNI declaration to the corresponding C/C implementation. View this mapping by hovering over the C or C item marker near the line number in the managed source code file.
  • Automatically generate dead-end implementation for JNI declarations. Define JNI declaration first and type “jni” or way name in C/C file to enable it.

Other Changes
