IntelliJ IDEA is an integrated development environment (IDE) written in Java
IntelliJ IDEA is an IDE for JVM languages, designed to maximize developer and programmer productivity. As a part of software development, making the process not only productive, but also an enjoyable experience.

IDE provides certain functions such as: code completion by context analysis, code navigation that allows you to jump directly to a class or declare it in code, code refactoring, code debugging, linting and options to fix inconsistencies across recommendations.
IDE provides integration with build/package tools like grunt, bower, gradle and SBT. The software supports version control systems such as Git, Mercurial, Perforce and SVN. Databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLite and MySQL can be accessed directly from the IDE in the Ultimate edition.

IntelliJ supports plugins through which one will be able to add extra functionality to the IDE. Plugins can be downloaded and installed from the IntelliJ plugin website, or through the IDE's built-in plugin search and installation function. Each version has its own plugin repositories, both Community edition and Ultimate Edition have over 3000 plugins in total.
Developing modern applications involves the use of multiple languages, tools, frameworks, and technologies. IntelliJ IDEA is designed as an IDE for JVM languages, but many plugins can extend it to provide a multi-language experience.
