About StarDict

StarDict - free English-Vietnamese dictionary software

  • Automatically look up words and choose the right dictionary for the word you just entered. You will be able to look up words in English, Vietnamese or any other language (using Unicode font).
  • If you need to see the words you've looked up before, press the 4th button from the right.
  • You will be able to use “*” and “?” to intelligently look up meanings. For example, if you enter “*iger” you will see a series of words ending in “iger”. And if you replace the "*" with "?", you will get the exact word "tiger". If you want to look up words that are similar to the word "tiger" (via fuzzy query algorithm), you just need to add the "/" sign in front of the word to look up.
  • When you move the mouse pointer to any text area, a small window appears inside. You will be able to lock this window in place by pressing the Lock button. In this floating window, you will be able to perform functions such as: copy into memory, save meaning, pronounce, query cross meaning or query this fuzzy meaning. You will also be able to look up the meaning of title bars, menus, text on buttons, desktop icons, Start buttons... However, the text is not recognized as an image. .
  • If you don't like that when you hover over a word, the word's meaning table will appear, just uncheck "Scan words" in the dictionary's main window or right-click on the dictionary's icon on the taskbar and uncheck “Scan”.
  • Looking up words is extremely simple, at the main window of the program, you just need to enter the word you want to look up with Unicode font type in the Unikey or VietKey.

How to install and use StarDict

Installation Guide

Step 1:

First, you install the dictionary support program. At the final installation step, select the language in the box Current user's language and All users' language is Vietnamese (vi).

Step 2:

Next, you install the dictionary on your PC. After installation is complete, extract the dic.zip file to the folder C:\Program Files\StarDict\dic (same for other dictionary data).

StarDict User Guide

Once done, restart your computer and click on the blue dictionary icon on the desktop.Star Dict will appear with a list of words to look up on the left. , and on the right are buttons to show/hide the word list. Below from left to right are the buttons: automatically scan the word to be selected when hovering the mouse over any word, instructions for use, exit the dictionary, search for the word to be looked up in the online dictionary, open the StarDict Web site , manage dictionaries and configure dictionaries.
