Android SDK is an open source software 1 development kit consisting of a debugger, libraries, device emulator (based on QEMU), example source code and instructions.
Currently supported development platforms by Android include x86 architecture - Linux computers (any desktop with Linux installed), Mac OS X 10.4.8 or higher, Windows XP or Vista, of course Windows 7 however. Required components also include Java Development Kit, Apache Ant, and Python 2.2 onwards. The officially supported IDE is Eclipse (3.2 or later) using the Android Development Tools (ADT) Plugin, although developers can use any text editor to edit Java XML files and then use Use the Command Line tool to create, build, and debug Android apps.
Android SDK provides you with the API library and necessary tools for programmers to program, test and Fix Android.

If you are a beginner Android developer, we recommend that you download ADT Bundle to quickly start developing apps. It includes the necessary Android SDK tools and a version of Eclipse IDE with the built-in Android development tool, ADT , to streamline your Android app development program.
Simple download, ADT Bundle contains everything you need to start developing apps:
1 Android's new development environment is called Android Studio. Based on the IntelliIdea platform, Android Studio is currently available as an early access browser.
If you prefer to use a different version of Eclipse or the IDE, you will instead have a more customized approach to installing the Android SDK. Read the instructions below:
Android SDK has the tools, sample code, and documentation you need to create a great app. The following is a brief description of the steps you must take to install Android SDK:
If you have to install or update Eclipse, you can download it from here
Several types of Eclipse packages are available for each platform. For Android development applications, we recommend that you install one of the following packages:
- Eclipse IDE for Java Developers
- Eclipse Classic (version 3.5.1 or higher)
- Eclipse IDE for Java EE programmers
If you already have an IDE, which you need to use for Android app development, installing a new SDK requires that you download the SDK tools, then select the package Android SDK compatible for installation (e.g. platform and system image of Android). If you are using an existing version of Eclipse, you will be able to add the ADT plugin to it.
